Shadow Art – Kick Start

I used shadows to create this type of art.

We needed to go outside and find a shadow on a sunny day, but I made do with shadows around my house.

First, I found my shadow, then traced around it. To add some variety, I coloured in both artworks. I did one artwork with the shadow coloured in(left), and one artwork with the background of the shadow coloured in(right).

The hardest part was tracing the shadow, because most of the edges were blurred. Unfortunately, the sky was cloudy, which made less light shine through. With both of the artworks, I added more lines to them which I thought should be there. Can you guess what plants I drew?

Vibrant Viola – Step-It-Up!

I composed a piece of music using Google Arts & Culture. It makes me think sad and somber thoughts at the start, but slowly but surely, it turns from a minor to a major(figuratively).

Ode to Joy was his most famous and last symphony; Symphony No. 9 or the Ninth which was composed between 1822 – 1824. That was also during the time he was completely deaf.

People are not completely sure why Beethoven was deaf, but it was most likely because of compression of the eighth cranial nerve(2 nerves) which is responsible for maintaining body balance, eye movements, and hearing. Some people think Paget’s disease of bone(disease which disrupts the replacement of old bone tissue with new bone) has caused deafness.

If you were to compose your own music, how would you make the listener feel?

Vibrant Viola – Kick Start

Using Google Arts Viola the Bird, I have ‘played’ Ode to Joy by Beethoven. I have inserted a screen recording so you can see and listen to the performance. The music was fairly simple and easy to play as we just had to swipe the mousepad. I also couldn’t figure out how to hold the notes longer.

Fun facts!

  1. He was the 3rd Ludwig van Beethoven in his family
  2. Beethoven’s birth date is not completely known. His baptism was on December 17, 1770. Most babies were baptised 1 or 2 days after birth
  3. At 11 years old, Beethoven had to leave school and became the breadwinner at only 14 years old because his father was unable to provide for the family
  4. Beethoven’s first performance was in March 1778 when he was 7 and 1/2 years old. To impress the audience, his father made him believe he was 6 years old
  5. Beethoven composed lots of pieces while he was deaf(started deafening from 1798), such as Moonlight Sonata and the 9th Symphony

Colour Block Landscape – Step-It-Up

I have created a sunset landscape using Google Drawings. I have used colour contrast to make the sunset stand out. To do this, (in this sunset case) you need to make all other components darker than what you would originally wanted it to be. For example, you want a blue sea and the sun to stand out, make the blue sea darker like in my artwork below.

Don’t you just love the lovely orange and golden yellow colours during a sunset or a sunrise? But have you ever wondered why they are orange instead of blue?

Warm colours’ wavelengths are longer than cool colours’ wavelengths. When a sunset or sunrise takes place, this means more of the blue and green wavelengths are scattered away, resulting in the oranges, yellows, and reds you see in the sky.

Colour Block Landscape – Kick Start

I have created a colour block landscape using Google Draw. The techniques I used to create this type of artwork are placement, size and contrast.

I used contrast with the waves and the hill, making the colours darker as it was more far away. The same goes for the trees, to make it look in perspective, and in contrast. I added some fish to make the ocean less lonely!

My Bug Profile – Step-It-Up

I have created a bug profile for the Giant Weta(wetapunga). Did you know? ‘Wetapunga’ means ‘god of ugly things’?

I chose this bug because I remember finding a large weta in my school, on a tree.

Some factors that I think make the giant weta so big are:

  • adapt to habitat
  • no predators; which will let them grow or predators; which will make them adapt
  • habitat perfect; which lets them grow the biggest they can be

Why else do you think the giant weta is so big?

Snakes & Ladders – Step-It-Up!

I have created another Snakes & Ladders game but this time.. Multiplication Edition! I really enjoyed this activity, especially when I played against my brother(and won!). Did you know Snakes & Ladders was made by Saint Gyandev and was used to be called Mokshapat?

The first slide was a game with my brother. He started off in the lead, and I went down one snake. In the end, I won.

The second slide is my custom game. I changed the colour of the blue squares into red. I used mixed multiplication and division, for a bit more of a challenge.

Snakes & Ladders – Kick Start

I have created my own digital Snakes & Ladders game using subtraction. You need to subtract before you stay in a place on the board. But wait! To play my edition of Snakes & Ladders, you need to solve the problem in under 3 seconds(to make it more difficult, double digits are to be subtracted!). I can share you in if you want to play this edition!

Did you know? Snakes & Ladders was supposed to be a moral education for children. The squares that had ladders, represented virtues. The squares that had snakes, represented evil. Completing this game represented a successful life’s journey.
