Sunny Sundials – Step it Up

For this activity, I have made a sundial using some thin cardboard. I have marked 10 am, but realised the dial was supposed to be facing south. I changed its position and wrote 10:30. The black line marks 10:30.

The first picture is of 10:30 am and the second 11 am.

What I found interesting was that you have to point the gnomon(triangle or pin in the middle of the circle) North or South, depending on where you are. I pointed it south, because New Zealand in the South of the world.

What do you find interesting about sundials?

My Bug Profile – Step-It-Up

I have created a bug profile for the Giant Weta(wetapunga). Did you know? ‘Wetapunga’ means ‘god of ugly things’?

I chose this bug because I remember finding a large weta in my school, on a tree.

Some factors that I think make the giant weta so big are:

  • adapt to habitat
  • no predators; which will let them grow or predators; which will make them adapt
  • habitat perfect; which lets them grow the biggest they can be

Why else do you think the giant weta is so big?

Underwater Robot – Step-It-Up!

I have created an underwater robot for scientists and marine biologists to use. It will expand our knowledge further about the deep, dark depths of our Earth’s blue; the ocean.

What else would you add to my Underwater Robot, and what abilities would your robot have?

Did you know? The Earth’s surface is covered in 71% of water?
