Outdoor Imagination

This blog post is about me using nature to make critters. The critters I chose were the butterfly and the caterpillar. Below are the things I used to make my critter. I used a plant stalk that is thin, thick leaves from a bush and rose petals.

I hope you like my creations!

Here are the finished products:

  1. Hi Jamie,

It’s Emma here again from the Summer Learning Journey.
Wow, these critters you have created are amazing! Thanks for sharing your step by step process to show how you got the finished product. Did you collect all the different pieces from your own garden at home?

I love how you have collected plants with a range of textures and colours to create the different shapes of the butterfly wings. Those thick curved leaved create the perfect shape for the caterpillar’s body too!

My favourite butterflies are Monarchs. We used to get Monarch butterflies in my garden because we had swan plants, which is where they like to live and lay their eggs. Do you get many butterflies in your garden, or do you have a favourite type of butterfly too?

I wonder if you could put your creations in a flower press or maybe underneath some books to preserve them. Have you ever done that before?

    Thanks for sharing Jamie!

  2. Kia Ora Emma, thanks for the blog comment! I made these critters using my auntie’s plants in her backyard(I hope she doesn’t mind!). My favorite butterfly has to be the Monarch too! In my school we have a swan plant but sadly I think it is dying. I have pressed flowers before using a book but I forgot to protect my books🙁 I wish I could press the critters but they were too thick to press. Anyways thanks for the blog comment and have a great day!
    Jamie
