Nit Comb

This is a sentence using letters from my new alphabet which I created using Google Slides:

An ancient 3,700 year old comb was found with writing on the side of it in 2021 using letters of the world’s first alphabet leading to our modern alphabet. The writing on the side of the comb talks about getting rid of lice.

The nit comb was found in the ruins of an ancient city called “Tel Lachish.” The people who lived in Tel Lachish are called Canaanites. The Canaanites created their own alphabet which uses letters that make sounds instead of drawing symbols for ideas.

The nit comb is made out of ivory from an elephant’s tusk, but no elephants lived in the area so the owner of the comb must have been rich. Some of the teeth from the nit comb have been broken off, but you can still see where the teeth were.

On one side there are 6 large teeth used for untangling hair. On the other side there are 14 smaller teeth which were used for removing lice and their eggs (but I think they must have struggled just a bit.)

Happiness Poem

Happiness

Happiness sounds like laughing

Feels like fun

Like a pure and happy life

Refreshing, clear, sweet

Cheerful laughter on a sunny day

Doing things you like

Happiness smells like a strong, sweet flower

Like,

YAY,

WOO-HOO!

Joy in your heart

A large grin

Birthday cakes

Laughter

Like Summer

Happiness is about being who you are,

and having fun with friends & family.

A few days ago our class created a roll and write poem about the feelings of Arlo from “Arlo and the Orca.” This roll and write poem is about what happiness feels like, looks like, sounds like, smells like, tastes like and what happiness is.

Sadness Poem

Sadness

Crying

Cold tears dripping on your face

Water and cold air

Crying

Tears running down your face

Like a cold gust of wind

You are no-one

Tears dropping out of your eyes

Into the ocean

Salty tears

Huhuhuhu!

You’ve had enough

Crying salty tears and sweat

Bitter feeling of guilt, depression and regret

Sadness is blue, a rainy day.

A few days ago our class created a roll and write poem about the feelings of Arlo from “Arlo and the Orca.” This roll and write poem is about what sadness feels like, looks like, sounds, smells like, tastes like and what sadness is.

Arlo and the Orca

Anger

Anger feels like letting your rage out

A clenched fist

Blood, salty sweat

Growling and yelling

Rough and hot

Like a red face

Anger smells like danger

Like air

Shouting and screaming

Painful and hurtful

Madness and crazy actions of destruction

Like smoke

Burning coal

A fire raging and growing limitlessly

Anger is the emotion your want to show or not

It starts when we get upset about something.

A collaborative poem written by all of Room 8. This poem expresses our feelings about anger looking through the eyes of Arlo from Arlo and the Orca by Monique Walker.

This week Monique and Stacey came to class and presented Monique’s book. We learnt that it’s okay to cry and life can be dark and moody with waves of emotion BUT we have to remember the sun will come back and always shine again.

Room 8 wanted to say thank you to Stacey and Monique Walker for presenting Monique’s book, to Katheryn and Jesse for doing an introduction dance about the book and doing fun activities throughout it.

Life Cycle of a Mosquito

Most mosquitoes are harmful and annoying. But did you know there are types of mosquitoes that are not harmful and are actually useful to us humans? For example the elephant mosquito, they only feast on sugary liquids such as flower nectar and the juice from rotting fruit. The most shocking part is that they can also feast on other dangerous mosquito larvae which helps control and reduce the number of harmful mosquitoes! Their trick is they extend their head from their body only leaving a tiny connection before they devour its prey. The only catch is, they have to be in the same body of water.
